Why are my locs thinning at the ends/tips?

Locs can thin for several reasons. Thinning can happen anywhere within the strand, but it is most common at the tips for various reasons. Here are some common reasons:

  • Using tight styles

  • Pressure on the tips from styling bands

  • Making knots at the end when styling - weakens them at the tips

  • Lots of friction, e.g., when sleeping, the tips rub more than any other part of your locs

  • Neglect. When locticians only maintain the root and leave the remaining length of the loc unattended. [Neatness and care should cover the entire strand]
