Why are my locs thinning at the ends/tips?
Locs can thin for several reasons. Thinning can happen anywhere within the strand, but it is most common at the tips for various reasons. Here are some common reasons:
Using tight styles
Pressure on the tips from styling bands
Making knots at the end when styling - weakens them at the tips
Lots of friction, e.g., when sleeping, the tips rub more than any other part of your locs
Neglect. When locticians only maintain the root and leave the remaining length of the loc unattended. [Neatness and care should cover the entire strand]
